“Bush:Iraq must be invaded to thwart Gog and Magog”

Prior to the invasion of Iraq, President Bush told French President Jacques Chirac that ” Iraq must be invaded to thwart Gog and Magog *, the Bible’s satanic agents of the Apocalypse.”

Yes, thats right, Gog and Magog. Mr. Chirac recounted ( in two 2007 interviews and a recently published book ) a strange conversation he had with Bush as his administration was soliciting allies to assemble the “coalition of the willing”( to support the Iraq invasion). Bush appealed to their “common faith” with this disturbing and cryptic revelation:

“Gog and Magog are at work in the Middle East…. The biblical prophecies are being fulfilled…. This confrontation is willed by God, who wants to use this conflict to erase his people’s enemies before a New Age begins.”

Candidate Threatens Armed Rebellion Against Government – Fox Nation

Catherine Crabill – a Republican candidate for the Virginia 99th District House of Delegates

***

Virginia state legislature appears to threaten armed rebellion in this clip, flagged by the Democratic blog Not Larry Sabato. “Those are my convictions,” she tells the Washington Post. “I am a full-blooded, freedom-loving American, and what we see in Washington is domestic terrorism at it’s worst.”

‘Buchanan resigns from MSNBC, will run Crabill campaign’

MSNBC political analyst Patrick J. Buchanan has resigned from his job at the network in order to run the campaign of Virginia House of Delegates candidate Catherine Crabill, Buchanan’s spokesman, George Foster, confirmed.

Comment: The REAL REASON Buchanan is leaving MSNBC is because he was embarrassed by having Maddow kickin’ the bejeezus out of him; night, after night, after night.

Levi Johnston talks about Palin’s resignation

1

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The former fiance of Gov. Sarah Palin’s 18-year-old daughter says he thinks he knows why the Alaska governor is resigning — concerns over money.

Levi Johnston, 19, whose wedding to Bristol Palin was called off earlier this year, says he believes the governor is resigning over personal finances.

Johnston says he lived with the Palin family from early December to the second week in January. He claims he heard the governor several times say how nice it would be to take advantage of the lucrative deals that were being offered, including a reality show and a book.

“I think the big deal was the book. That was millions of dollars,” said Johnston

{snip)

“It is interesting to learn Levi is WORKING ON A PIECE of FICTION while honing his acting skills,” Palin family spokeswoman Meghan Stapleton said in an e-mail to The Associated Press.

FICTION?

Palin said herself it has already cost $500k for the ethic questions; and that’s BEFORE the possible/probable contractor kickback(s).

Bottom-line: it appears Stapleton is as a big of an ass-hole as her boss; soon to be, EX Governor Palin.

GOP – ‘Moron of the Week’

Rep. Steve King (R-IA) was the ONLY congressman to vote against a resolution yesterday that acknowledges the role that slaves played in the construction of the U.S. Capitol Building, reports of the Huffington Post. According to the text of the resolution, which passed 399-1 (three- hundred and ninety-nine to one), its simple goal is to recognize those who constructed the Capitol with a marker:

“Whereas enslaved African-Americans performed the backbreaking work of quarrying the stone which comprised many of the floors, walls, and columns of the Capitol…

Whereas recognition of the contributions of enslaved African-Americans brings to all Americans an understanding of the continuing evolution of our representative democracy; and

Whereas a marker dedicated to the enslaved African-Americans who helped to build the Capitol will reflect the charge of the Capitol Visitor Center to teach visitors about Congress and its development…”

King has never been afraid to stand alone, particularly when it comes to his blatantly racist sentiments.

He has referred to both the Congressional Black Caucus and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus as “separatist groups” and immigrants as “LIVESTOCK” who are waging a “slow-moving terrorist attack.”

This past election season, he used Obama’s Kenyan heritage and middle name to proclaim that terrorists would be “dancing in the streets” if “Hussein Obama” won.

In 2008, King also said that apologizing for slavery wasn’t about contrition, rather “White Americans wallowing in guilt.”

‘After the War Was Over’ – Herbert

1

Robert S. McNamara, Architect of a Futile War, Dies at 93

Robert McNamara, Lyndon Johnson’s icy-veined, cold-visaged and rigidly intellectual point man for a war that sent thousands upon thousands of people (most of them young) to their utterly pointless deaths, has died at the ripe old age of 93.

Skip to next paragraphLong after the horror of Vietnam was over, McNamara would concede, in remarks that were like salt in the still festering wounds of the loved ones of those who had died, that he had been “wrong, terribly wrong” about the war. I felt nothing but utter contempt for his concession.

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/07/opinion/07herbert.html?ref=opinion

***

I certainly concur with Hebert’s, “I felt nothing but utter contempt for his concession”.

However, I believe Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Powell and Rice could live to 93, or 103; and they will NEVER concede the invasion of Iraq was as a horrendous mistake as was Vietnam.

And to make it possibly even worse, we FAILED to learn the lessons from Vietnam.

‘Al Franken’s secret’ – Paul Krugman

1

David Broder has a column this morning calling for bipartisanship. I know, you’re shocked. But what struck me was this bit about Al Franken:

Franken, the loud-mouthed former comedian, will be the 60th member of the Senate Democratic caucus …

Two points.

First, implicit in this characterization of Franken is the notion of the Senate as a decorous gentlemen’s club. I doubt that club ever existed in reality; but in any case, these days the World’s Greatest Deliberative Body is, not to put too fine a point on it, chock full o’ nuts. James Inhofe: I rest my case.

2

***

Second, Al Franken’s dirty secret is that … he’s a big policy wonk.

I used to go on Franken’s radio show, all ready to be jocular — and what he wanted to talk about was the arithmetic of Social Security, or the structure of Medicare Part D.

In fact, the only elected official I know who’s wonkier than Al Franken is Rush Holt, my congressman — and he used to be the assistant director of Princeton’s plasma physics lab. (The campaign’s bumper stickers read, “My Congressman IS a rocket scientist.”)

So what will Franken do to the level of Senate discourse? He’ll raise it.

“Short Straws” – Slacktivist – posted by Fred Clark

1

SCENE: A secure, undisclosed location somewhere deep beneath Washington, D.C. Representatives from every conservative PR tank and farm team have gathered for an emergency meeting.

Tony Perkins looks nervous, unsure if he should be glad he gets to go first. He reaches out and makes his choice. Grinning broadly, he holds up the long straw for the others to see and, chuckling to himself, makes his way to the back of the room.

“It’s not fair,” says George Weigel of the Ethics & Public Policy Center. “We had to take Santorum. We should get a pass this time.”

“Just pick, George,” says the intern from Heritage. They sent an intern just to show up the others. Heritage is cocky like that.

Weigel picks a long straw and almost begins to sob with relief.

Gingrich picks next, another long straw. Then the lady from AEI and then a guy from the Petroleum Institute. They both get long straws too, but the oil lobbyist tries to act like he hadn’t been worried. “It might have been OK for us,” he says. “You know, ‘Drill, Baby, Drill’ and all that.” Nobody’s buying it.

It’s the Club for Growth’s turn next, and Stephen Moore looks like he just drank curdled milk.

“Do we really have to do this?” he whines. “Why not talk radio? Or Fox?”

“Have you seen her in interviews?” Gingrich says. “We stick with the plan – cushy think-tank post, ghost-write some books and buy ‘em back. Instant best-selling author and elder stateswoman. You know the drill. Now pick.”

Moore gets lucky, another long straw. And a string of long straws follows – for Dick Armey and Michelle Bernard and Mark Tooley from the Institute on Religion & Democracy, looking even twitchier than usual.

Brent Bozell is up next. The odds are getting worse and he hesitates.

“Look,” he says, “let’s work something out here. What if we just agree to take Sanford instead? …”

Palin blasts media (again)

1

In a message posted on Facebook, Sarah Palin on Saturday again laid out her reasons for resigning as governor and attacked the media for its “predictable” response to her speech yesterday:

“The response in the main stream media has been most predictable, ironic, and as always, detached from the lives of ordinary Americans who are sick of the “politics of personal destruction”. How sad that Washington and the media will never understand; it’s about country.”

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/07/04/palin-facebook-message-sl_n_225772.html

About country?

Hardly, because it’s about speaking fees and book deals; and the fact you never finish anything you’ve start, DUMMY!

Another possibility, she’s simply a crook.

“Did a scandal sink the U.S.S. Palin?” – Max Blumenthal

The suddenness of her announcement raises the question about whether Palin resigned to avert a major scandal. One logical place to start looking is the affair that has Alaska political circles buzzing: an alleged scandal centered around a building contractor, Spenard Building Supplies, with close ties to Palin and her husband, Todd.

Gingrich oh Health Insurance

1

But Gingrich also touted the success of private health insurers. When Johnson noted that it is insurance companies that are coming between patients and needed care, Gingrich claimed, “If you don’t like your current insurance company, you can change insurance companies.” He later argued that private insurers have done “well”:

GINGRICH: “They have it done well. And the fact is, overall, 71 percent of Americans are relatively satisfied with the health insurance.”

http://thinkprogress.org/2009/07/01/gingrich-private-insurance-well/

 ***

Well, I suppose it’s could be how you define, ‘relatively”.

75 percent of Americans who have been “pushed into personal bankruptcy by medical problems actually had insurance when they got sick or were injured.” Many experts say that fixing the health care system won’t mean “simply giving everyone an insurance card.” Too many Americans “already have coverage so meager that a medical crisis means financial calamity.”
